Beyond the Blog

In every profession there are opportunities to attend networking events. When you attend, do not expect a special formula to make you successful overnight. If the advertisement states a get rich quick mantra, you are probably wasting your time and money. Thankfully, there are many people who share their journeys with others not to tell them how to reach their goal, but to encourage them to keep working towards what they are striving for.  I had the pleasure of attending an event this past weekend, Beyond the Blog, where several creatives shared their experiences. Below are three things that I learned from the Beyond the Blog event:

  1. Be your authentic self.

This was stated by EVERY panelist. Being yourself sounds like a no-brainer, but it is easy to lose yourself when trying to impress your boss or gain social media followers. Remember, you got hired because of your abilities and personal characteristics. It can be exhausting to pretend that you’re someone that you’re not in real life. So, make it easier and focus on being the best version of yourself.

2. There is room for everyone.

Competition can get ugly. It seems like there is a blogger or vlogger everywhere I turn. Many people forget that being successful does not mean being better than the next person or stepping on someone’s toes. Celebrate the success of others in every season of your life. Their blessing is tailor-made and yours is soon to come.

3. Network!

Networking requires talking to people, and maybe even initiating the conversation. Imagine that! I am naturally shy in unfamiliar settings. The beauty of networking events such as Beyond the Blog is that everyone has a common interest, so, there is nothing to be afraid of. It’s not guaranteed that you will become best friends with everyone you meet, but you never know what can transpire from a simple hello! My goal is to begin stepping out of my shell when I attend events, not sitting alone until someone taps me on the shoulder.

Your crown is made of unique pieces, let it shine!
